Over the past couple of weeks you’ve heard me talk about effective email marketing campaigns and what they can do for your business.

Are the emails you’re sending….helping or hurting your business?

Recently, I was talking with a friend of mine who has a list of about 700 people that he sends emails to on a regular basis.

He said that his result were somewhat below average as far as getting people to take action on what he was promoting. Since I’m on his email list I was also getting several of his emails, and I must say…

I could see why he wasn’t faring out too well.

I asked him what his reasons were for sending out the emails and what he put in the emails. I was surprised when he told me that he usually sends out emails when he comes across something of value or maybe a product that he likes and tries to promote it.

From the emails I read, I probably wouldn’t buy either.

I told him to do an experiment and subscribe to five different opt-in email marketing lists to see which ones he felt were effective and to really look at the ones that tried to develop a relationship first.  And as he got more emails from each, look at how they inspired him to click on the links within the emails.

When he found ones that inspired him to follow through and really liked…he should then model his own email campaigns in a similar way.

If you haven’t done this type of experiment before, I encourage you to do so, even if you have a small list.

Remember! It’s not the size of your list that brings in the money, it’s the relationship you have with your list as to whether they will take your recommendations and either buy your product or what you recommend.

This is a great learning experience for anyone who is sending emails to their list on a regular basis. I get lots of emails everyday from even the so-called gurus and they absolutely stink. Sometimes I think they write emails just for the sake of sending out emails to their list.

Don’t do that! If you can’t send out emails that have good quality content that your readers can use…don’t send any!

You hurt yourself more than you are doing good. If people get crap more than once, they unsubscribe!

I’ll cover the results of his experiment in my next post.

Til then…
